Background

The Transformers' story begins 10 million years ago, when aliens converted a planet into a factory to build robots. The second Great War, which began eight million years ago, fought between the Auobots, and Decepticons. After four million years of fighting, Optimus Prime left Cybertron with a handful of Autobot soldiers, searching for a new energy source. They were Followed by Megatron. During a spaceship battle, the Transformers' ship crashed on Earth and everyone aboard went unconcious,then the ship was buried by a volcano. In 1984, seismic activity uncovered the ship and the main computer reactivated the robots, scanning the planet's native technology to give the Transformers new bodies. The Autobots and Decepticons picked up their war where they left off, on Earth.

That's the backstory of the tv show. After two season, Transformers: The Movie premiered, jumping the story forward to the future of 2005, and the tv show picked it back up from there. So that leaves a pretty big gap of unexplored time right in the middle of the story, and that's where the Binaltech story begins.

Alternate History

2003 - Decepticons are kicking ass on Earth and Cybertron. On Cybertron decepticons are faring well. On Earth however, Transformers in alliance with humans initiate the Binaltech project. Car companies help in creating new bodies for the Autobots. With these new bodies, the Autobots chase the Decepticons out of the solar system. The evil scientist Dr. Arkeville^[1] was determined to break the Earth/Autobot alliance. He brainwashed the Binaltech scientist and made Decepticons versions. Jazz (Meister) gets some intelligence and goes to the moon to find Dr Arkville's secret lunar base with all his brainwashed lackies.

A "black box" was found in a prehistoric excavation, that came from a Cybertronian ship that had come from the future. The recorder held the "Consciousness File," for Ravage. The scientists traded Ravage a Binaltech body for knowledge of the future. They made him transform into the cassette and put him in the tape player to power the Transformer. Finding the world unchanged from the one he remembered, he realized the plan to change Earth's history during the ancient Beast Wars had failed. Knowing what the future holds for the Decepticons, Ravage is now out to alter his history by influencing our future.

The Autobots on Earth were starting to lose the war. Overdrive, with experience time travelling, felt a rift in the space time continium realizs that Ravage is doing this with his interdeminsional antics. While the Autobots were unable to do anything about it, Ravage took the oportunity to hijack Wheeljack's Shuttle to Cybertron. The Decepticons winning a battle on Cybertron are sucked into Ravage's time warp. He knew that Unicron was coming to eat the planet.

A lightning strike operation carried out by Prowl and Overdrive finally saw Ravage captured, but it was too late: just then, Unicron approached Cybertron, devouring the planet's moons. Deep inside the body of Unicron, Ultra Magnus made his way to the heart of the beast.^[2] He opened the Matix and a blinding burst of light destroyed the monster Unicron from within.

Dr. Arkeville had secretly been constucting a Binaltech body from spare parts. If Megatron couldn't destroy the Autobots, Arkeville would build a robot that could. Working with a stolen scan of Optimus Prime's programing he created the ultimate military leader.^[3] As the mad doctor tried to bring his cretion to life, a mysterious glowing orb appeared, engulfed the body, and was gone.

The Autobots launched a probe into the past, warning against Ravage's attacks. If all went as planned, their world would soon be no more, as history re-wrote itself. Suddenly warp holes began to appear all around the world, expanding as if to consume it. A silhouette looking like Optimus Prime appeared. He held an orb of light in his hand, which grew and engulfed the entire planet. When the light faded, the spatial warps were gone. Black Optimus said he was sent by someone known as "the Protector" from the future. A Decepticon insignia formed on his shoulder, and a teleportation portal opened behind him. He threatened to return when his true evil potential was realized. Overdrive used his dimension-jumping abilities to check on the status of the "original" timeline, and found it had been restored. He hesitantly reported that in that world, Optimus Prime was dead and that Hot Rod, not Ultra Magnus, was the next Matrix Bearer.
